President, Head of Player Development
Rookie Gage is in his 19th year as serving as Baseball Director at HBC. Rookie brings years of experience to HBC serving as assistant coach at UCF from 1996-2000. He was an assistant coach at Winter Springs High School in Orlando, Fl during the 2000 season, leading the offense and infield program. in 2002, he was instrumental in creating the hugely successful Cahaba Mudcats organization in Pelham, AL. He has worked with players who have continued their baseball careers at the next level including Miss State, Jacksonville State, UAB, Auburn and the University of Alabama.
During his tenure at HBC, Gage led the program to 2009 National High School Summer Tournament Championship in Lexington Kentucky, 2010 Disney Championship in Orlando Florida and in 2011 he led HBC 12u to a Sweet 16 finish at Cooperstown Field of Dreams in New York. He was part of the second wave of talent in 2019 bringing a Perfect Game Playmaker World Series Championship to Hoover with the elite 11u HBC Astros. In 2025, he managed HBC Heat 9u to the Grand Slam State Championship. He has overseen the baseball program growing to its capacity and has helped establish a culture of accountability, teamwork and a Christ centered focus both on and off the field.
His full-time job is having the honor of working with pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital, where he as been for the past 25 years. He currently works in the division of Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. In addition, he finds time to work as pediatric nurse practitioner working at Urgent Care for Children Hoover Clinic. He maintains the fact that most patients encountered teach him more about life than he could ever offer them in care.
